10 Ways to Look and Feel More Confident

Article by ,

Confidence is necessary if you really want to succeed in this competitive world and lack of it can make your life harder in so many ways. You may have to face troubles in your social life as well as your professional life when you are not self-assured. Now, building self-confidence is not an overnight process. It requires a strong will, patience and practice. The good news is there are so many things you can do in order to boost your self-confidence. Here are ten useful tips to help you look and feel more confident.

10 Speak without hesitating

Rushing through your words is a sign of lack of confidence. Speak slowly, firmly and avoid long unnecessary pauses. A person with a confident voice is considered impressive. When he speaks, people listen. Speak loud and clear and do not hesitate!

9 Personal appearance

When you look good, you feel good! Taking care of your personal appearance can do wonders for your self-confidence.  Now I don’t mean you need to dress in the latest designer outfit every day! Shaving frequently, bathing daily, wearing clean and well ironed clothes etc are few of the basic things which you need to do in order to look presentable!

8 Stand up for yourself

It’s good to be tolerant and patient but this does not mean that you shouldn’t defend yourself when someone puts you down! We all have faced those really mean people who can say really mean things least at some point in our lives. This can really affect your self-confidence. Constant criticism can make you doubt yourself. Learn to stand up for yourself.

7 Accept compliments

People with low self-esteem have a tendency to believe most of the negative things people say about them and shrug off any compliment they receive. If someone gives you a compliment, do not refuse to believe it. Instead try to respond positively. Compliments can help in boosting your self-esteem. If someone compliments you about something, believe that you deserve it and that you are a capable and worthy person.

6 A good posture

When you are interacting with someone, the right posture is as important as the right words. Yes, your body speaks volumes about you and an incorrect poster means that you are not really confident with your body.   If you slump your shoulders, have lethargic movements or a stoop posture, people may assume that you lack self-confidence.  Practicing good posture will make you look and feel more confident. Quit slouching and stooping, keep your shoulders square and you back straight!

5 Stop comparing yourself with others

As Shannon L. Alder puts it “Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud.” No satisfaction can come out of comparing your life with others. You may forget your own worth when your start comparing yourself with someone else. You may start concentrating on your weakness more than your strengths. This will harm your self-confidence. All you need to remember is that everyone is unique and special in their own way and so comparison makes no sense.

4 Planning and preparation

Whether it is an important examination, a job interview or a presentation, planning and preparation is very important. Chances of failing increase when you go for something unprepared. This can seriously damage your self-confidence. Planning, preparation and practice are vital for success. If you are well prepared, you can easily face any challenge which comes your way.

3 Do not be afraid to fail

In order to be more confident, the first thing which you need to do is stop being afraid to fail! So what if you did not get that job, learn from your mistakes so that you are well prepared for the interview next time. You really like that girl at work, approach her! Don’t let the fear of being rejected hold you back. If you’ll never try, you will never know!  You will feel much more confident when you finally realise that failures are not the end of the world and there is always a second chance!

2 Know Yourself

If you want to look and feel more confident you really have to believe in yourself and if you want to believe in yourself, first you really have to KNOW yourself. You may make a list of your strengths, talents and weaknesses. Explore and nurture your strengths and work on your weaknesses. The more you know yourself, the more confident you will feel about yourself.

1 Know that you are important

Value your individuality and know that you are important and significant.  Speak up and don’t be afraid to present your views and opinions whenever you get a chance. Don’t let criticism bring you down. It is only when you will realise your own worth, you can expect others to respect you. Believe in yourself and work hard to realising all your dreams!
