Prevention step against data loss in RAID-based Storage Array

Many of you will not be adequately aware of RAID. RAID is nothing but a way in which systems store and manage data. The expanded form of RAID is a Redundant Array of independent disks. This array comprises physical hard disks forming a RAID plan. To exemplify, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, etc. Further, it shares data amid all other disks of the same system in an individual disk through an Operating System (OS). Now the question arises about the safeguarding of various RAID levels. The answer is that they come with innate techniques to safeguard them from losing data because of any default in hard disk physically. One important fact is that this technology is not even bulletproof, so it becomes important to take steps against data loss while using the RAID array.   • Backup is essential: Back-up is a must-have thing nowadays; as most of the work is done on computers or digital devices, all the essential data is stored therein, any physical loss of the same will result in a data loss. RAID failure leads to data loss. System failure too can result in data loss, so it becomes necessary to have a backup of data. Backup is no more an option but a necessity.
  • RAID Configuration: Section of appropriate RAID configuration is essential as well to safeguard against data loss. Many types of RAID configurations have failed to save data and ultimately resulted in data loss. There is no surety that single drives will work properly. In case it fails, one can replace the defective drive with a new one. Doing this will result in a data storage system that will work efficiently, not leading to any loss in data.
  • Avoid revamping the system with failed disks: If you notice that two hard drives have failed on the RAID 5 system, replacing the failed drives with the new ones is of no use, and reconstructing will result in permanent loss of data. The operation of rebuilding data is no doubt a time-consuming process, but revamping of RAID post by substituting the failed hard disk with the new one can be the solution to the same. Though reconstructing the hard drive is risky, it should be done depending on the updated data backup version.
  • Avoid attempting DIY rebuild or data recovery: You should not attempt DIY rebuild if you are not aware of the reason for the hardware and storage array’s failure. Suppose you lack knowledge in this field or how to get the system efficient and effective working again or unaware of how you can get back your lost data. In that case, you should go for professional advice or call upon an experienced professional one to help you out in getting back your lost data. Because this is a risky task, and your negligence may lead to permanent loss of important information or data.
