10. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies
The college was established as ‘College of Business Studies’ under the tutelage of Delhi University in 1987 under the vision of Dr. S.S. Gulshan who had this idea of undergraduate business management education. In 1991, CBS was the first college of Delhi University to adopt the semester system for its BBS course. The college rechristened as Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies in 1997. The college offers education under the courses named as BBS, B. Sc (H) Computer Science, BFIA and BBE. It is considered the best college in Delhi University for Business Studies. There are seats for 345 students and a staff of 30 teachers. The major recruiters associated with the college are Bain Capability Centre, CBRE, AT Kearney, Inductis, and Futures First. 9. Gargi College
This leading South Campus institute was established in 1967 and offers courses in commerce, science, arts and English. The college is likely to add undergraduate courses in mathematics, economics and management studies from 2013-14 academic session. There are 1,288 seats in college and faculty strength of 186. Companies like Capital IQ, Deloitte, Ernst and Young and Google are major recruiters. The college has a table tennis court and a cricket ground. There is a well-stocked fully computerized library with over 60,469 books. There are various science and research laboratories with five computer labs. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The canteen has several food courts that can accommodate 250 students. Its holistic approach towards teachings and good track record in academics made it the recipient of ‘College for Potential for Excellence Grant’ from UGC and ‘Star College Grant’ from DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology. Gargi admits students securing marks around 85 to 93.
8. Lady Shri Ram College for Women
Established in 1956, LSR was set up by Late Sir Shri Ram. The college is primarily liberals arts college now offering Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, commerce and BELED. There are around 750-800 seats and faculty strength of 137. The past employers of college include Facebook, Google, Dainik Bhaskar, Essar and American Express among others. The college has a well-stocked library with over 1 lakh books. There are teams for sports like swimming, judo, badminton, chess, volleyball, squash, shooting, athletics etc. the college has a gym, bank, bookstore, PCO, computer and statistics lab with a new academic block coming up. College hostel can accommodate 300 students. The cut-offs soar to 97 for sought after courses.
7. Jesus and Mary College
JMC was found as a constituent college of Delhi University in 1968. The college opened with one department offering English (H) and B.A. (P) courses with 116 students. Now the college offers degree in economics, English, History, Psychology, Hindi, Political science, Sociology, Mathematics, Commerce, BE/ED to 700 students each year. Companies like Google, KPMG, Deloitte and Mc Kinsey pick students for placement every year. The college facilitates indoor and outdoor sports like football, netball, Judo, cross-country, wrestling, weightlifting to name a few. There is a well organized and expertly maintained three storied library with approximately 50,000 books and capacity of 180 users. There are computer labs, psychology lab, B. El. 6. Daulat Ram College
Founded in 1964, DRC came into being due to efforts of educationist Late Daulat Ram Gupta. DRC offers courses in political science, Hindi, English, History, Sanskrit, Psychology, Commerce, Chemistry and many more. Number of seats in the college is 1077 and faculty members are 160. The major companies coming to college for placement are Barclays, Balaji Telefilms, HCL among others. Students are trained in sports like rugby, cricket, hockey, table tennis and volleyball. DRC was training venue for rugby in Commonwealth Games 2010. Recently a gymnasium was set up in the college. Library is equipped with 80,000 books. The hostel ensures comfortable stay for 200 residents. You need to score somewhere between 87 and 90 to secure a seat in this college.
5. Kirori Mal College
KMC was established in 1954 and the college auditorium has been a launching pad for Amitabh Bachchan, Satish Kaushik, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and many more. The college offers courses in English, Hindi, geography, commerce and economics. Each year 1350 students can enroll themselves to be taught by 201 teachers. The college has a placement cell for students where employers include UBS verity, Flip, Wipro, Taj Group, Google, Mc Kinsey and ABN Amro. The college has a gymnasium, cricket pitch, football ground, hockey field and table tennis hall. College’s N.S. Pradhan Memorial Library houses around 1.5 lakh books and have room for 350 students. The canteen provides multi-cuisine delicacies at competitive prices and seating for 200 users. Hostel facility is available only for men, admits 170 students. There are 16 CCTV cameras and 10 guards on campus for safety purpose. This college can admit students with percentage ranging from 85-95 depending on the course.
4. Hansraj College
The college was established in 1948. It provides bachelor in commerce, English, Hindi, history, Sanskrit, computer science and geology. 1,072 students can get the opportunity of being a part of this college. It is considered as one of the best colleges in DU for its training in sports like shooting, archery, chess, swimming, basketball, badminton, cricket, table tennis, water polo and many more. Companies like Alchemist, Airtel, eTechies, Group Upon India, Placez.com make their way to the campus every year. The college has an impressive library, six computer labs and 18 science labs to boast of. The canteen can serve up to 150 people at a time and offers wide range of dishes and drinks to choose from. Last year the college released cut-off as high as 96.25 for some subjects.
3. Hindu College
Hindu college was founded in 1899 by late Shri Krishan Dass ji Gurwale to provide non-elitist and non-sectarian nationalist education to the youth. Originally part of Punjab University, it shifted to its new building in Kashmere Gate from Kinari Bazar in 1902. Later it shifted to Delhi University. This is the only college in Delhi University to have Student’s Parliament since 1935, which provides excellent training platform for developing public speaking and leadership qualities. The college offers a wide range of courses from B.Tech in electronics to Bachelors in English, science, commerce, arts and Hindi. There are 752 seats and faculty comprises of 140 teachers. Sports like cricket, table tennis, lawn tennis and basket ball are integral part of curriculum. The NCC wing of the college is associated with Delhi Naval Unit. There is a Nescafe cafeteria for students and staff and a hostel to accommodate 200 students. DBT (Department of Bio Technology) awarded Hindu College “Star College” status in 2012. Students with scoring atleast 90 can think about admission in this college.
2. St. Stephen’s College
Founded on February 1, 1881 St. Stephen’s. set up by a Christian mission from Westcott House, Cambridge, is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affiliated to Calcutta University and later to Punjab University. Finally with establishment of Delhi University in 1922, St. Stephen’s became one of its three original constituent colleges. From Katra Khushal Rai, the college shifted to its present site in University Enclave in 1941. The college offers degree in economics, English, history, philosophy, Sanskrit, mathematics, chemistry and physics. The college offers 420 seats. HLL, Britannia, Mercer, Times Now, NDTV, Accenture are some of the companies where students of this college are placed. The playing fields for outdoor games are situated outside Old City Wall between Kashmere Gate and Mori Gate while there are facilities for playing tennis and basket ball on campus. College also provides facilities to play badminton, squash, table tennis and indoor games. The college has Francis Monk gymnasium. The college library has over 90,000 books and manages junior common room and ladies common room. The college provides accommodation on campus to selected students. 1. Shri Ram College of Commerce
Commercial College decided to convert itself in 1951 on its Silver Jubilee, into a college specializing in commerce and economics and also gave itself the present name in recognition of the contribution made by its founder, Lala Shri Ram. SRCC shifted to its new building in DU’s North Campus in 1954. The college offers Bachelor in commerce and economics and an exclusive two year full time post graduate course. The college has 624 seats with a faculty strength of 120. SRCC has a placement cell which has attracted employers like AC Nielsan, HSBC, Infosys, Nestle, Hindustan Lever and PriceWaterHouseCoopers. The college has a centrally air conditioned sports complex offering a number of indoor and outdoor games and has a swimming pool and a gymnasium too. SRCC offers a fully automated library and is the first library in DU to provide Wi-Fi services. A fire system and a medical centre with OPD facilities is installed in the college. The college has hostel accommodation facilities for 200 boys and girls where 100- seater girls hostel is recently sanctioned by UGC.
