Headquartered in Lyon- Ecully, France, the Euro news claims to be covering world news in a Pan- European perspective. Short magazine segments focusing on market data, financial news, sports news, arts and culture are also showcased during the remaining schedule. The ‘fair and balanced’ corporation reached out its arms to about 17 million subscribers following its launch on October 7th, 1996. The channel was created by Australian American media figure Rupert Murdoch and is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group. Murdoch was keen on developing Fox so as to create “a network of independent stations as a fourth marketing force” after CBC, NBC and the ABC. Though criticized for promoting conservative political opinions and biased reporting, one cannot deny the role of Fox channel in supplying valuable news items to a million population spread far and wide across the globe. The channel laid emphasis on visual presentation and graphics were designed to make a program look appealing to the audience. Fox believed that a colourful picturing of events could help the viewer’s in grasping the main points of what was being said. On- screen text summarizing of an interview and showing bullet points while delivering commentaries are some other techniques the channel employed. “The appetite for news- particularly news that explains to people how it effects them- is expanding enormously” and this, Murdoch believed would aid in providing the Fox News Channel a ‘worldwide platform’.
