We all are aware how easy it is to get influenced by the things we see, especially when we talk of children. Our childhood, in fact our parent’s childhood as well has been spent watching numerous cartoons – whichever one was on air. At that time there was hardly any technology and one had to pass time watching one show after the other. However, no matter how simple our childhood had been, I can guarantee that for none of us it was a boring experience. We enjoyed the little things and laughed till our stomach hurt on even the silliest jokes. Watching cartoons was out great escape from everything in the world. 10) SpongeBob Square Pants –
Created by Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob Square Pants is an animated television series about the (mis)adventures of SpongeBob and his friends Patrick Star (a starfish), Squidward Tentacles (an octopus) and Sandy Cheeks (a squirrel) along with his pet snail Gary. They all live under the sea in a fictional city called Bikini Bottom. A feature film ‘The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie’ also released in 2004. The series has a total of 10 seasons and is considered a huge hit among children even now.
9) Justice League –
An American television series that ran from 2001 to 2004, Justice League is based on the comic book characters based on DC Comics. There were a total of 2 seasons. The main characters included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern etc. among many other reccurring characters.
8) The Jetsons –
Set in the future, year 2062 to be precise, The Jetsons is a part of everyone’s childhood days. There were aliens, spaceships, awesome technology – what’s not to like? The story revolves around a family – The Jetsons Family which includes George Jetson, his wife Jane, their son Elroy, teenage daughter Judy and a robot maid Rosie. They reside in Orbit City and the show focuses on their daily lives and the hilarious outcomes of their misadventures.
7) The Flintstones –
Focusing on the life of a man in the Stone Age period, The Flintstones is one of the many cartoons that children loved to watch. It has been ranked as the second greatest TV cartoon of all times. The main characters are Fred Flintstone, Wilma Flintstone (Fred’s wife), Pebbles Flintstone (their infant daughter) and Dino, who is a pet dinosaur and acts like a dog.
6) Dexter’s Laboratory –
Dexter’s Lab, as many of us like to call it, is an American comic television series that ran 1996 to 2003 on Cartoon Network. The animated series is about Dexter, who is the main character, with a secret laboratory and a really annoying sister. Although his parents are quite supportive of his work, most of the times he’s very disgruntled and keeps on inventing new things which often end up in a disaster.
5) Looney Tunes –
Basically a collection of many short films, Looney Tunes is something that defines every 90’s kid’s childhood. Be it The Bugs Bunny Show, The Road Runner Show, or Baby Looney Tunes, we all at some point in our life enjoyed watching this series. Some of the many famous characters of the show are Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Taz, Tweety and Sylvester.
4) Power Puff Girls –
The American animated show created by Craig McCracken. The show focuses on the lives of 3 girls who have superpowers – Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. Their father Professor Utonium is a scientist and they all live in the quiet city of Townsville, USA. They fight off enemies who are trying to destroy their town using their powers and almost always succeed in doing that. The major villains of the show include Mojo Jojo, Him, Princess Morbucks, The Ganggreen Gang, The Amoeba Boys and Sedusa. The show aired from 1998 till 2005.
3) Pokémon –
Following the success of Pokémon the video game by Nintendo, they also started a mini series titled with the same name. The series focuses of Ash Ketchum, a Pokémon Master who is in training and his group of friends. Their Pokémon partners include Pikachu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff – there are a total of 719 Pokémon!
2) Scooby Doo –
An American animated series, Scooby Doo is one of the most popular series to have ever existed. It has been a part of every kid’s childhood no matter which year they were born in. It focuses on the misadventures of Scooby Doo, a dog, who is always accompanied by his best friend Shaggy, and Velma, Daphne and Fred too. They are together called the Scooby Gang and travel in their car, the Mystery Machine, to different haunted places to solve the supernatural mysteries. A number of spin off series were produced due to the overwhelming response in viewership – Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo, Where are You! Etc.
1) Tom & Jerry –
The most loved cartoon by everyone, Tom & Jerry is what defined our childhood days. Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the show focused on the love hate relationship of Tom, the cat and Jerry, the mouse and their numerous pranks and the chaos that follows with it. A number of recurring characters like Spike and Tyke (bulldogs), Nibbles (a small grey mouse) and Mammy Two shoes (who is the owner of Tom) are seen throughout the show.
