Sometimes in life you may go through a phase where you feel that things aren’t going according to your way. It is very important to understand that all of us go through this phase and it’s not something unnatural. However, this depressive state should be dealt with very carefully because if not treated right, it may lead to severe depression and that’s something that should be avoided at all costs. So here are 10 tips as to how you can bounce back to your regular happy-go-lucky self if you’re feeling the blues.
10) Exercise –
If you wake up feeling drowsy, then you can be sure that your day isn’t going to go that well. One needs to be fresh in the morning and only then can concentrate on other activities of the day. So, the first thing to do when you get up is exercise for a few minutes, or, if you are an exercise junkie then go to the gym. However, a long walk or jog in the park will also have the same effect – you will feel energized and ready to take on the day!
9) Watch what you eat –
It’s very important to take a look at your diet before getting yourself treated for symptoms of depression. Food items like pasta, cakes, French fries etc. may make you feel good in the short run but are not good for your mood or your energy. They make you feel lethargic. Include food items which are rich in Vitamin B like oranges, spinach, chicken, eggs etc. They should become a part of your daily diet.
8) Try to think positive –
It may seem that this is something which is the most obvious thing to do while you’re depressed, but it is very hard to think positive thoughts while you’re down and out. Nobody expects you to start thinking of changing the world at the very moment, but think of all the good things that you have done to help other people. Accept that you cannot always be perfect and beauty lies in imperfections! You are unique and always stay that way. Accept your flaws and be proud of all that you’ve achieved in your life.
7) Pick up a hobby –
The best way to lift up your mood is to pick up a hobby! Start painting, drawing, writing – do whatever makes you happy! Go out and start gardening! A spontaneous decision will definitely boost you up and you’ll get distracted too for a while. Who knows you might just forget about all the negative thoughts? It doesn’t matter if you have to pursue your hobby alone or with someone, just go out there and do it! You’ll surely feel energized after that.
6) Go out and relax –
A stroll in the park all by yourself will give you time to think of all the problems that are disturbing you. Just go out and try to spend some time alone with yourself. It’s very important to get out of the house or else you’ll be stuck in the same place thinking of all the things that bother you. Enjoy the beauty of nature and try to think of happy thoughts while you’re at it. Also, exposure to sunlight is very important for the body and one should definitely try to get out during day time as much as possible.
5) Call someone you are close to –
It can be a friend or a family member, but it is very important that you discuss your issues with someone close to you. It should be someone you completely trust and can share all your personal things with. Talking about the problem helps us in many ways. Firstly, we get to know that there is someone who will always be there for you and will listen to you when you need help. Secondly, by actually mouthing the words you hear yourself talking about the problem – which may sometimes make you realize how small or insignificant your problem actually is!
4) Compliment yourself –
It’s very important to compliment yourself at regular intervals. Dress up well, go out and make effort to look nice when you’re out and about. You can surely spend your whole life in your pajamas (they’re just so comfortable!) But that’s not how it’s supposed to be! Even if you’re going grocery shopping, make sure you look good and feel confident about yourself. It boosts up self-confidence which will ultimately make you feel better about yourself. And always remember to wear that smile wherever you go!
3) Go shopping –
One thing that can always lift your mod up is shopping! It’s every girl’s dream to buy (hoard) clothes and shoes and accessories! And if you’re a guy you too can shop for clothes and games which will keep you busy for a long time! There is no point of buying things which aren’t necessary but once in a while it’s ok to splurge on things which will make you happy!
2) Watch your favorite TV show –
The best fix to get yourself going on and not get sucked into the depressive mood is by watching your favorite show(s)! Download the whole series of your show and you won’t even realize when day turned into night! It will keep you hooked for a long time and you will enjoy it too! I would suggest watching FRIENDS as if never fails to lift up my mood!
1) Stop being hard on yourself –
The most important thing to realize is that you are who you are and there’s nothing that’s going to change that. Accept that you are only human and you’re do whatever you’re capable of. It’s ok to give up at times – you don’t always have to be happy about everything! But just remember, everybody has those days and everyone makes out of it – So can you!
