We live in a fast-moving world that is developing and probing ahead each second we breathe. Tensions crop out from nowhere and the stress factor attempts to erode our mental thinking. This is when our dear friend ‘hobby’ steps in to make everything more relaxed. Hobbies could be anything. It could be reading, writing, cooking, dancing etc. There is no bar on what a hobby is and what isn’t. If you like doing something that helps you relax in your leisure time, it is undoubtedly a hobby.

Sometimes, using your creativity at things could well be your hobby. You could be creative in handicrafts, or probably creative in drawing, painting and sketching. You could start sketching your own portrait maybe in the middle of your hectic study session, diverting your mind elsewhere to a place where it can breathe! Yes, incorporating art as a hobby can be mighty relieving at times. You could follow in the footsteps of the great Vincent Van Gogh or the famous Pablo Picasso who were great artists themselves. They started off with making art their hobbies, and today we remember them for that.

Music is the best way to sooth the body and mind alike. It’s a no-brainer really, and it’s universally accepted. Music is a wonderful hobby to develop. It could be listening to music, or experimenting on music as a musician. If an apple a day can keep the doctor at bay, then music a day can keep the tension away. In your spare time, why not try and learn the piano? How about the guitar? Or wait, maybe the drums exploding themselves interests you! Look at all the great musicians in the world. Yes they have superb skill sets to play some magical music, but it all started out as their hobby.  Listening to music can be extremely relieving. It is one of the best ways of relaxing the body, giving the mind to bounce off something new and melodious. You are listening to a song for example, and soon enough you start to sing that particular song. Its part of the liking you take to that music, and soon enough you forget your troubles! I, personally, would be surprised to come across a person who doesn’t think about keeping fit. Well, it’s one of the best ways to respect your body in my opinion. People always have the notion of ‘keeping fit’ in their heads, but don’t actually set about to do what it takes to keep fit. Want to do something that interests you? Well then, make fitness your hobby! Don’t be surprised if you come across plenty of fitness freaks in the world. The very thought of jogging, stretching and yoga could make the mind feel tired. But honestly speaking, these fitness mantras could be like play every day, if done with interest. A lot of people start hitting the gyms to keep fit not because they’re forced to, but also because they enjoy carrying themselves through the fitness regime. Fitness can be an interesting hobby, to help you live a healthy life. Yes, fitness is a way to keep physically fit. That’s not all; it’s a way to keep mentally fit too.

Imagine a world where you are surrounded by friends. And each day, you make more and more friends. You get to know people more; you meet new people and blend with them. Socializing and interacting can be one amazing hobby. Meeting new people, widening your friends circle etc. etc. Socializing as a hobby can help in so many ways. The more people you know, the wider your circle gets and the better it is for you. Why not? Studying different languages can obviously be a hobby, no doubt. That’s if it interests you of course. If the language the French speak interests you, you might as well learn French! Learning a different language is useful today, as the buzz is you get good jobs outside India if you have good knowledge in different languages. Yes, one will always know and use English well. I have even lost count of the number of photography pages I follow on facebook! The number is huge. Modern technology has helped as a catalyst in generating interest in this hobby, making it more and more widespread. The digital camera has literally boosted photography as a hobby, making it easier for people to indulge in it. This widespread hobby can be a real stress-buster when you need one, and can also help in relaxing the mind. As humans, we see so many breath-taking sights on holidays and sightseeing. There is that little part of us who’d want to capture those moments forever. Photography lets you capture these beautiful moments, helping you to preserve them. It’s a hobby that could help the human vision explore more. It can be an absolute delight when you try and take several shots at several angles of an old tree standing eerily by a quite lake. The thrill one receives on taking a beautiful snapshot is one that can regenerate the positive energy one’s body sends out. It’s a beautiful hobby to inculcate. Read and read and read and read. No wait, nobody is forcing you to read! Rather, you could yourself get to reading something useful, it could be a blog or a book or a newspaper report or a feature article. Reading is one of the best hobbies that one can inherit, in my opinion. Take for example the novels written these days. Novels are so useful when you wish to divert yourself from the various stresses in your life. Fiction novels transport you to a different world altogether, thus leading your mind to explore something new. Reading, as a hobby, has its own significances. The more you read, the more you feed your mind with something useful. It is a hobby that can be fun, adventurous and serve the quests of your vibrant imagination. You could be reading a blog online, or a featured article on a website. Either way, you’re reading something new and quite possibly something interesting. Reading the newspaper every morning also keeps you aware of the world around you. But it must be said here, reading is best done when done with interest. One can’t just force himself to read anything and everything. Reading is also a way of defining one’s personality in a small way. The more you read, the more you improve your vocabulary. Hence, that makes you more accustomed with the way you speak. Trust me, reading is a wonderful hobby. If you wish to have your mind diverted, or you wish to lead your exploratory mind somewhere, reading is the perfect dose.

And yes, it is but obvious that I rank sport as the best hobby in the world. Football, cricket, volleyball etc, it could be any sport. ‘All work and no play make Jack a dull boy’, isn’t said just for fun. As a matter of fact, this statement carries a heck lot of truth with it. Sport helps one break the monotonous routine of life. Playing football is fun as it is entertaining and refreshing. The same goes for plenty of other sports too. Sports like football and cricket allow us to ease ourselves into a leisurely mode, whether we’re playing it or watching it. In a country like India, Cricket is a hobby and a religion to millions. Go to a maidan and see the hundreds of kids in white, training to be the next Sachin Tendulkar. It’s a hobby they’ve taken seriously, a hobby that could well take them to the best of the cricket clubs in the world. Football is one such sport that helps keep people immensely fit too. It’s a quick game, and for those who love thinking quick, it can be the perfect hobby. Sport is one hobby that could decide your life. For Ronaldo, Messi, Pele, football started out as a hobby. For Dravid, Tendulkar, Ponting, cricket started out as a hobby. You know the power of such a hobby. What are you waiting for? Hit the ground running!
