In today’s age, everyone is conscious about his health and fitness. They aspire to become slim and fit. As such they go on various lengths to reduce weight. Most of you feel that starving and cutting down on meals would melt away those extra pounds but to be true this is actually not a wise thing to do at first place as they affect your health adversely. I have some other solution for those who want to get into those smart jeans, put on those curvy dresses lying in your wardrobe. Well my mantra is a routine yoga and proper healthy food. Presenting you here is a list of those yoga exercises which is quite effective on reducing weight.

10.  Shalbhasana

Well, this is one of the fastest ways to lose your belly fat fast. You need to lie down on your belly on floor such that your hands are resting below your thighs while forehead and chin are resting on the floor. Now without bending your knees, lift either of your legs in the air to some 10 inches. Then try raising your both legs simultaneously.

9. Veerbhadraasana

As the name suggests you have to be in a warriors pose during this exercise. This aasana stretches your back, strengthens your thighs, buttock and tummy. The name of this asana is rooted in Hindu mythology.

8. Chakki Chalan

Coming next on our list is an exercise to give a stretch to your stomach called chakki chalan. For this, you have to sit in a comfortable position & spread your legs straight in front of you. Both your legs should touch each other. Do not bend your knees. After that join your hands & move it in circular motion over your legs as if your are turning a “chakki”. Do it 10 times in clockwise position & 10 times in anti-clockwise position.

7. Setubandha asana

Unlike shalbasana, here you need to lie down on your back and bend your knees in such a way that your feet rest on the floor. Raise your mid-section of body in the upward direction as shown in the figure. This asana gives a good massage to your thighs & lower back.

6. Kapalbhati Pranayam

Well, the simplest of all in our list is this breathing exercise. It helps in giving you that desirable flat toned tummy. All you need to do is sit on a mat keeping your spine erect and palm on your knees.  Loosen your stomach muscles and breathe in. Quickly contract your stomach muscles again and exhale. Your stomach muscles should be doing the work of pushing out and pulling in air.

5. Padhatasana

This is yet another effective asana to reduce fat in the mid-section of your body. It also makes blood rush to the head. To do this asana, you need to stand on your feet touching each other. Bend downwards from your hips to touch your feet with fingers and exhale. Now inhale and rise upwards slowly to the standing position.


Another asana that could be followed to melt away your pounds is Utkatasana. You need to stand straight on your yoga mat with your hands in namaste in front of you. Now lift your hands above your hand and bend at the knee forming a chair pose. Your thighs must be parallel to the floor. Try to bend the torso slightly forward and breathe in. Try to stay in this position as long as you feel comfortable. Then gently stand up. This asana strengthen the core muscles and tones the buttocks.

3. Varksasana

This asana is also called as tree pose which is good for your thigh and arm muscles, stomach and abdomen. You need to stand with your feet together. Then try to put your weight on one leg. The heel of the other leg should be placed on the inner portion of the first leg. Now gently raise your hands above your head making sure your fingers are pointing towards the ceiling. Make sure you focus your mind by focusing on some spots in front of your eyes and try to maintain your balance.

2. Paschimottanasana

Next on our countdown is paschimottasana to help you to reduce the accumulated fat. Besides, this asana gives a good stretch to your hands, arms and spine. To do this, just sit down on the floor with both legs extended forward in front of you. Stretch your arms and body forward and try to touch your toes with your hands. Keep in mind that the knees should not bend while you try reaching to your toes.

Topping on our list is Surya Namaskar which basically contains various forward and backward bending asana to be done in succession.These bendings flex and stretch the spinal column giving a profound stretch to the whole body. It has amazing weight reduction properties. This exercise is actually a full work-out for your body.
